the loss of consolations

The internet was out earlier today.  It was the second time this week, and that, in addition to the information that my 8 year old daughter’s favorite taco place closed down, and that I refused to take her to get conciliatory donuts, sent her into a state of profound sadness.  There were tears, then she just left.  I thought she had gone to play a game, but I found her later in my bed, all tucked in and sleeping like a sad little- internet-less, taco-less, donut-less princess.  Poor little cookie.
